Regarding my SG33G5 and Debian (stable version downloaded min Jan2009 - whatever that is). I found

> SATA = AHCI Native Mode

Not useful but leaving as IDE mode and "enabled" legacy support.

Worked like a charm for me.

I switched to the NVidia drivers for my card by enabling proprietary drivers in Ubuntu. BTW 8.10 solved most of my issues, including running OSX as part of my triple boot systems.

I have the same system as well,
I've installed LinuxMCE 710 (KDE).
Had the same problem with the SATA ports had to switch to AHCI.

I'm interested in the graphics drivers do you know how to switch to the 'experimental' intel drivers?

Hi, I have the same system and also hit the same problem but found the fix (same as yours). Set the SATA ports to AHCI and native mode and ubuntu 7.10 and mythbuntu 7.10 boht work fine with out any different boot options. The correct graphics drivers don't seem to be installed so you have to select the intel experimental drivers. I'm still working on perfecting that part for best screen resolution.
